CONGRATULATIONS TO THE MAJORS RED SOX AND MINORS AAA ASTROS - 2018 NLLN REGULAR SEASON, NLLN PLAY-OFF AND NOVATO CITY CHAMPIONS!!!
FALL BALL REGISTRATION IN NOW OPEN
Fall Ball is designed to provide a low-intensity way to “keep the rust off” over the long off-season. It is open to a limited number of players who will be league age 7-12 for the 2019 Season (born between September 1, 2006 and August 31, 2012) who anticipate playing in either Majors or Minors (AA or AAA) next season. The program will be split into two separate divisions.
Developmental - AA
This division will consist of those players who expect to make play in AA Minors next season. Typically, this means those who developed enough skill in Rookies (machine pitch) last season to advance to live pitching, but it may include others of similar skill level. This group will receive weekly professional coaching on Sunday mornings for an hour, followed by a casual one-hour scrimmage (also run by the professional coach). Due to feedback from previous seasons, this group will NOT participate in inter-league games.
Teams – AAA and Majors
This division will consist of those players who:
Developed enough skill in AA last season to advance to AAA next year;
Played AAA last season and expect to play there again in 2019;
Played AAA last season and expect to play in Majors next season (*see note below)
Due to very low past participation from returning Majors players, we will NOT be offering Fall Ball at this level.
Based upon registration numbers and coaching availability, we hope to form teams to compete against other District teams (e.g. Dixie, San Rafael, Twin Cities, etc.) on Sundays. Approximately 5-8 games will be played throughout Marin starting in early September and running through early November. No games will be played over Labor Day weekend.
An optional weekday practice may be added at the Manager’s discretion.
Cost is $125 (includes hat and jersey) and registration closes on August 12th.
Registration is limited to the first 48 players to sign up. After that, we will form a wait list.
The coaches/managers for the AAA/Majors will be volunteers from the parents of the players who register. While we have some coaches who have expressed interest, note that the ability to field teams is COMPLETELY contingent upon receiving firm commitments. Without volunteers, teams will not be formed. If this occurs, we will try to arrange a clinic/practice only option (e.g. integrated with the AA’s Sunday coaching program) or refund your registration fees.
Efforts will be made to properly match a player’s talent level to an appropriate team, however, given the limited size of the program, such a match may not always be possible. Also, unlike the regular season, where significant registration numbers provide for predictability, the form of this Fall Ball program may change depending upon the makeup of the registrants. If such changes do not satisfy your needs, we will refund your fees.

2018 District 3 TOC Champions - NLLN Majors Red Sox
Novato North Red Sox – Majors TOC Champions (from Marin IJ)
The Novato North Red Sox won the District 3 Tournament of Champions for the Majors Division, besting the Novato South Giants in the championship game on Wednesday night by a score of 5-0. The Red Sox, winners of the Novato North regular season and play-off titles and the Novato City Championship, previously beat the San Francisco American Rangers and Dixie Terra Linda Rays in their run through the tournament of teams that were winners of their respective leagues.
Conor Croteau was dominant on the mound in the championship game, allowing one hit and striking out 12 before reaching the pitch count limit and with two outs in the fifth inning. Croteau didn’t allow a hit until the fifth and Novato South wasn’t able to advance beyond second base. Vinny Ciolino came on in relief and recorded the final four outs to preserve the shutout.
Bennett Hadd settled down and pitched well after the Red Sox scored three and left the bases loaded in the bottom of the first inning. He gave up 10 hits, struck out 8 and walked only one before reaching the pitch count limit in the fifth.
The offense for Novato North was led by Ethan Wood (3 hits), Hugh Brady (3 hits) and Vinny Ciolino (2 hits, including a homer). Croteau and JD Rhodes also contributed key hits. They were solid in the field all night, including spectacular plays by Zack Farbstein, diving to make a catch in center field, and Croteau, getting to a ball hit sharply up the middle from his shortstop position and throwing to first in time to record the final out of the ballgame.
Dakari M had the only hit of the game for the Novato South Giants.
